As Alabama heads into perhaps its toughest challenge of the season this weekend at Georgia, the Crimson Tide is still trying to put together a truly superb performance. Even in their three victories, there have been aspects of those Alabama games that have called for criticism, and the Tide will most certainly have to play better than it did in its lone loss to Ole Miss.

The Bulldogs present some incredible challenges with an offense that has been a well-oiled machine thus far and a defense that has some solid young talent. Georgia hasn’t faced a team as capable as Alabama yet this season, but it has impressed against the competition on the schedule. Here’s a look at five players for Alabama fans to keep an eye on as the Tide gets ready for a big one between the hedges.

1. Georgia QB Greyson Lambert — The Virginia transfer has been shockingly good so far since arriving in Athens, completing 76.5 percent of his passes. And while the Bulldogs aren’t asking him to do too much — he’s thrown just 68 passes this season — he’s been close to perfect in his execution. It’s been such a remarkable jump in performance that many college football observers are simply waiting for the clock to strike midnight and see Lambert’s coach turn back into a pumpkin. Perhaps the stout Alabama defensive line can put an end to this Cinderella story.

2. Alabama DL Jonathan Allen — Which brings us to Allen, the Crimson Tide’s stud defensive lineman who left last week’s game against Louisiana Monroe with an injury. If Allen is healthy, he’s going to play a key role for the Tide as it tries to get pressure on Lambert. It was a strategy that worked wonders against the efficient passing game of ULM, but getting through the Georgia offensive line is a stiffer test. The Tide is deep up front, but Allen is a true star with three sacks already this season. Alabama has a much better chance if he’s on the field and producing at the level he’s capable of.

3. Alabama WR Chris Black — Black reminded everyone he’s still on the team last week against the Warhawks, making his first two catches of the season for 23 yards. Black was the leading returning receiver coming into the season but didn’t have a reception despite playing in the first three games. Without a star in the receiving corps like Amari Cooper or Julio Jones from years past, the Tide is looking for anyone who can step up and contribute. Black seemed like a prime candidate heading into the season but hadn’t done much at all until last week. Alabama coach Nick Saban would surely like to see more production this week.

4. Georgia WR/KR Isaiah McKenzie — McKenzie is a player to watch on multiple levels heading into the game. He’s been an effective receiver in his career with the Bulldogs, but where he’s really made his mark has been on special teams. His punt return for a touchdown against Vanderbilt left him one short of the Georgia school record for his career. But earlier this week, news broke that McKenzie was under investigation for threatening to kill a woman. It will be interesting to see if he even suits up as the investigation continues.

5. Alabama RB Derrick Henry — Henry has been outstanding this season but is a bit lost in the crowd among standout SEC running backs despite rushing for 422 yards and eight touchdowns in four games. This weekend, he’s going head-to-head with Georgia’s touted back Nick Chubb. Both teams will be looking to establish the running game and keep the clock and field position in their favor. This is a big opportunity for Henry to remind the world he belongs in the conversation with Chubb and LSU’s Leonard Fournette when talking about the SEC’s best running backs.
