Jahmyr Gibbs, the former Georgia Tech running back who was arguably the best player at his position in the transfer portal, is coming to play in the SEC.

Gibbs announced Tuesday that he will be transferring to Alabama. The sophomore went to the transfer portal in recent weeks after he played 2 seasons for the Yellow Jackets.

Through 12 games this season, he averaged 5.22 yards per carry, and led Georgia Tech with 746 yards and 4 rushing touchdowns. The 5-foot-11, 200-pound back also had 36 receptions for 470 yards and a pair of touchdown receptions.

Alabama’s running back depth has been hit hard recently, and was recently down to 2 healthy members, so Gibbs is a welcome addition.

Gibbs also has some versatility and on kickoff returns this season, he averaged 25.61 yards on 23 attempts. He had a 98-yard return for a touchdown against Boston College.
