Despite the fact Alabama is in the middle of spring practice, Nick Saban currently doesn’t have a full coaching staff in Tuscaloosa.

That’s because tight ends coach and special teams coordinator Jay Graham has made the decision to leave Alabama two months after his hire in Tuscaloosa. This news was first reported by Aaron Suttles of The Athletic.

“We are pleased to be able to add Jay Graham to our staff,” Saban said in a release following Graham’s hire at Alabama. “Jay is well respected across the country for his knowledge of the game and his ability to recruit. He has experience at numerous schools across the SEC footprint with a proven track record for his ability to teach the game and develop young men both on the field and in life.”

While some have been quick to assume Graham’s departure from Alabama has to do with his connections to the Jeremy Pruitt era at Tennessee — Graham was the running backs coach on Rocky Top last season — a source tells SDS it was Graham that made the decision to abruptly leave Alabama unrelated to his time coaching for the Vols.

During his brief time with Alabama, Graham — who is a Tennessee graduate — took some heat from Vol Nation after he touted the Crimson Tide’s winning streak over the Volunteers on social media.

After experiencing turnover at five full-time staff positions, Saban will now have to find Graham’s replacement while the team is in the middle of spring practice in Tuscaloosa.
