Alabama lost star WR Jaylen Waddle last weekend at Tennessee on the opening kickoff, when the speedy receiver suffered a broken ankle.

Now, other guys are going to have to step up to fill his production. ESPN analyst David Pollack said this week that he thinks the Crimson Tide are “done” in the race for the national title after losing Waddle.

On Saturday morning’s College GameDay, fellow analyst Kirk Herbstreit took issue with that assessment and fired back at Pollack:

“Nobody is debating that it’s not an enormous blow,” Herbstreit said. “You’re talking about one of the elite players in the country; obviously, it’s a blow. Earlier this week — on behalf of Alabama fans, you said on our podcast, ‘They’re done.’ That’s what you said.

“D-O-N-E as far as national championship because of his injury. I disagree with that. I think that Jaylen Waddle is a significant loss. I want to see who this team is. … There’s other weapons. It’s not just (Slade) Bolden. Bolden is not as good as Waddle. But give Steve Sarkisian time to draw up some plays. This does not mean that Alabama is done. It just means that it’s going to be different, and it’s not going to be as explosive. But they’re not done, man.”

How will Alabama’s offense look without Waddle? We’ll see what Sarkisian has drawn up when Alabama takes on Mississippi State on Saturday night.
