Collin Sexton wore the No. 2 jersey when he was starring at Alabama last season, and now the Cleveland Cavaliers’ first-round pick is going to continue wearing that number in the NBA.

However, that has ruffled a few feathers in Cleveland, as the last person to wear the No. 2 jersey for the Cavs was superstar PG Kyrie Irving, who helped lead the Cavs to the 2016 NBA title along with LeBron James.

On Monday, Irving — now a member of the Boston Celtics — was asked if he felt disrespected by his former team’s move. He told ESPN’s Ian Begley that he doesn’t care and added that he really likes the way Sexton plays:

“Go ahead, do what you do. He wanted to wear the number, let him wear the number. It doesn’t matter,” Irving said during a Q&A with reporters in Manhattan to promote his upcoming movie, “Uncle Drew.”

“The story is probably going to be the number. But I’m more excited about who [Sexton] is as a player in the league,” Irving said. “The number thing is like, just chalk that up to the game. It’s cool. It’s no hard feelings from my end. He just has to start at the chopping block just like everyone else did. So I’m excited for him.”

Irving and Sexton will become quite familiar with one another this fall, when the Celtics and Cavs meet up for what has become one of the biggest rivalries in the Eastern Conference.

Until then, Sexton’s choice of jersey number will draw comparisons to Irving, which is a lot of pressure for a rookie.
