Jalen Hurts or Tua Tagovailoa?

It’s been an ongoing topic of discussion in the college football world this offseason as Alabama appears to have a quarterback battle entering the 2018 season.

Hurts started every game for the Crimson Tide last year. But in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game, he was benched in the second half. Tagovailoa entered and threw a game-winning touchdown pass in overtime to win the national title.

So it’s unclear which quarterback will play when Alabama opens the season against Louisville on Sept. 1. But former Crimson Tide offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin, who is now the coach at Florida Atlantic, has a prediction for how Nick Saban will handle the quarterbacks in Week 1.

“He’ll play them both in the opener, so one doesn’t leave,” Kiffin told college football reporter Brett McMurphy on Thursday.

When Saban spoke at SEC Media Days in Atlanta on Wednesday, he said the starting quarterback was “to be determined.”

“Both guys had great summers, and we’ll just have to see who wins the team in fall camp,” Saban said. “So, we’ll see.”

Saban later added that both Hurts and Tagovailoa are capable of leading Alabama’s offense, and that he expects Hurts to still be on the roster when the Tide open the season.

The Alabama coach also stated that both quarterbacks can contribute to the team, even though one of them won’t be the starter. So perhaps Kiffin’s prediction will come true and Crimson Tide fans will see both quarterbacks on the field for the opener.
