How secure is Alabama’s spot in the College Football Playoff after starting the year 9-0 and earning the No. 1 spot in the rankings?

That was the question for the College GameDay crew on Saturday morning, and most think the Crimson Tide are safe even with a loss.

Analyst Lee Corso said the Tide are in no matter what the score is in the SEC Championship Game against Georgia (via 247Sports):

“If Alabama loses to Georgia, I don’t care what the score is, Alabama is in,” Corso said. “Without Alabama in the Playoff, it’s a farce. They’re the No. 1 team in the world. If they lose to zone-loss, they’re in .”

Kirk Herbstreit agreed with Corso, saying it would take a lot for the Tide to fall from No. 1 to No. 5 or lower:

“For me you have to get the four best teams in the Playoff,” Herbstreit said. “What Lee is saying … a lot of people are touting that. If Alabama loses a 3-point game to Georgia, how do you go from being the best team ever to being out? Clemson (Georgia and Alabama) would be in. It would come down to a Notre Dame vs. Michigan discussion.”

Of course, Nick Saban’s team would rather go ahead and win all their remaining games to take the decision out of the selection committee’s hands. We’ll see how the rest of the regular season plays out, but the Tide will certainly be tough to beat.
