Mac Jones receives high praise in NFL debut despite loss to Tua Tagovailoa, Miami Dolphins
Mac Jones largely received high praise in his NFL regular season debut as the New England Patriots suffered a narrow loss to the Miami Dolphins.
Jones was 29-for-39 passing for 281 yards and the first touchdown of his career. He was also sacked once. A late fumble by Rhamondre Stevenson proved costly in the 17-16 win by the Dolphins. Jones’ play made the Patriots look smart for drafting him No. 15 overall this past spring.
It appears that Jones has a bright future for the Patriots as he passed the first rookie test of his NFL career from an individual standpoint.
Here’s a sampling of the reaction:
Dolphins 17, Patriots 16 (final): Future is bright with Mac Jones. With better play around him, this result would have been flipped. At the same time, credit to the Dolphins for making the plays when it counted on opening drives of each half and in crunch time.

Mac Jones balled out on his debut, and the offense let him down numerous times. Gotta execute better than that.

Well, good news is that Mac Jones has looked excellent in his first regular season start. We need to clean up the penalties and the fumbles and we should be fine
