Well, this is pretty interesting.

With Alabama losing defensive line coach Karl Dunbar to the Steelers, Nick Saban once again has an opening on his coaching staff. If you missed the news, the move was made official earlier this week.

While there are NCAA rules against coaches contacting active players from other teams, those same rules must not apply to players reaching out to coaches. Crimson Tide linebacker Mack Wilson recently gave Ole Miss defensive line coach Freddie Roach his ringing endorsement for the open position on Saban’s staff.

Roach, a former Alabama standout player, has been on staff at Ole Miss for one season. Prior to landing his current job in Oxford, Roach served as director of player development in Tuscaloosa. Based on his previous accomplishments in Tuscaloosa, there’s a good chance Wilson isn’t the only one campaigning for Roach to return to his alma mater.
