Jason Witten is a former standout tight end for the Tennessee Volunteers who now plays for the Dallas Cowboys. During his outstanding playing career, he’s been as good of a person off the field as he has been on it. That is why it’s no surprise that he has an award named after him that goes to a player who exhibits leadership both on and off the field.

This is the first year that the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year award has been in existence and the three finalists for the inaugural award were announced Tuesday.

Oklahoma State’s Mason Rudolph, UCF’s Shaquem Griffin and Alabama’s Minkah Fitzpatrick will all be in attendance on Feb. 22, 2018 in Frisco, Tex., where the winner will be announced.

For Alabama fans, it’s no surprise that Fitzpatrick was named one of the finalists, as he’s been one of the best examples of leadership for Alabama since Nick Saban took over the program back in 2007.

Here’s what the SCORE Foundation — Witten’s official charity — had to say about the Alabama defensive back:

“Fitzpatrick is the leader of fourth-ranked Alabama’s feared defense and is unquestionably one of the best overall players in the country. But his dedication to academics, which earned him a spot on the SEC’s Academic Honor Roll last year, and focus on community work, where he has done mission trips and been a leader in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, has made him a standout off the field as well.”

The winner of the award will receive a $10,000 contribution to go towards his school’s athletic scholarship fund.
