Report: 1st-round pick, former Alabama star Minkah Fitzpatrick already wants out of Miami
When Minkah Fitzpatrick was starring in Nick Saban’s defense, he was praised for being able to play multiple positions. It gave the Tide’s defense a tremendous advantage and certainly helped with depth and development of other players.
Fitzpatrick was the most versatile defender in the entire 2018 NFL Draft. He was projected to be a lockdown corner in the NFL.
Now, apparently, that versatility is the reason he wants out of Miami. ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported that Fitzpatrick’s agent has been given permission by the team to seek a trade, because he’s unhappy playing multiple positions.
During Sunday’s 59-10 blowout loss to the Baltimore Ravens, Fitzpatrick played four different positions, and per the report, he’s been uncomfortable about his fluctuating role.
The former Alabama standout was one of the best pure cornerbacks in the league in 2018.
The Dolphins drafted Fitzpatrick with the No. 11 overall pick in 2018, and the team’s asking price for the defensive back includes a first-round pick.
Dolphins made Minkah learn six positions this off-season, including two LB spots. This was so simple: He was best slot CB in league last year. Play him there and some boundary. Coaching staff couldn’t do the obvious, and now their 2018 first rounder wants to leave
