Where Tua Tagovailoa will be picked figures to be the biggest storyline of the upcoming 2020 NFL Draft. The former Alabama quarterback is a unique case coming off a significant season-ending injury. Had Tagovailoa finished his junior season healthy, he was almost certain to be one of the first players to be drafted.

This week, Leigh Steinberg, Tagovailoa’s agent, shared an encouraging update that the quarterback is recovering well and should be able to work out and throw for NFL teams ahead of the April 23 draft. After speaking to Steinberg, Mike Rodak of AL.com wrote of the workout, “If Tagovailoa is ready, that session could happen at Alabama’s pro day in March. If not, he could hold a separate pro day closer to the draft, which begins April 23 in Las Vegas.”

On Wednesday, NFL insider Ian Rapoport offered an update to that timeline. The March Pro Day is looking unlikely as, according to Rapoport, Tagovailoa’s camp is targeting a mid-April Pro Day.

“From what I understand, what they’re looking at is a potential Pro Day somewhere in the middle of April,” Rapoport said on NFL Network. “Now it would be a rarity for a quarterback to have a Pro Day that late, health would go a long way in a determining this, but the main headline of everything, regardless of when his Pro Day actually is, is that Tua’s recovery from the dislocated hip and the (posterior) wall fracture is going as well as possible.”
