Nick Saban dismisses significance of perfect record against former assistants
One of the most talked-about records this week is 15-0. Many former Nick Saban assistants have become head coaches, but none have been able to beat Saban.
Kirby Smart gets another chance to be the first Saban disciple to pull off the tall task. It’s certainly a storyline and it will likely get mentioned on the CBS broadcast Saturday.
Saban himself, though, dismisses the significance of his dominance over his former assistants.
“I think that’s really, really overrated,” Saban said on his weekly radio show. “I think we have an established program here.”
This season, Saban has defeated three of his former assistants, two in the SEC, Jimbo Fisher and Jeremy Pruitt, and Billy Napier at Louisiana Lafayette.
Saban on his unblemished record against former assistants: “I think that’s really, really overrated. I think we have an established program here.”
Said assistants that left for head coaching jobs helped build the Alabama program, and most of them are having to rebuild teams.
