Only four Alabama players caught passes in the Crimson Tide’s Week 1 victory over Florida State, only one of whom — Calvin Ridley — was a wide receiver.

The other pass catchers were RBs Bo Scarbrough and Damien Harris and Hurts himself, catching a ball that was batted at the line of scrimmage.

Heading into this weekend’s matchup against Fresno State, Saban said he’d like to see the sophomore quarterback spread the ball around a bit more (via AL.com):

“I think we have to get more guys involved in the passing game,” Saban said. “I think guys have capabilities, and the only way they’re going to develop confidence is if they have a few more opportunities.”

Ridley had seven catches for 82 yards in the big Week 1 win, with 53 of those yards coming on a long touchdown pass in the first half.

Against a Fresno State team that doesn’t have the same smothering defense Florida State had, it’ll be interesting to see if Hurts can open up the passing game and spread the ball around a bit more.
