Nick Saban and Alabama survived a scare against Texas Saturday 20-19.

Alabama’s offense struggled to get anything going most of the day until the fourth quarter. Bryce Young and the Tide’s offense finally had an 11-play, 75-yard drive to take the 17-16 lead with just over 4 minutes remaining.

Texas kicker Bert Auburn nailed a field goal with under 2 minutes left to take the 19-17 lead; however, Young led Alabama down the field for the game-winning score.

Will Reichard, Alabama’s kicker, hit the game-winner to make it 20-19.

Young finished 27-of-39 for 214 yards and 1 touchdown.

Following the narrow win over Texas, Saban spoke to FOX Sports on the field.

On Bryce Young’s play …

Well, I think at the end of the day, he did a great job. When his best was needed, he was really good, and that’s what we needed. We didn’t run the ball well. So, we had to spread them out and did a really good job of moving the ball. Tough call down here on inches to go for it or kick a field goal, but I just felt like we could go 2 minute and kick a field goal if we needed to.”

On the penalties …

“We don’t want penalties. It’s all about discipline — making the right choices and decisions, pre-snap, post-snap, it doesn’t matter. So, we gotta play better. There’s no doubt about that. We gotta give Texas a lot of credit. They did a great job here today. Sark did a great job. They’ve got a great team. We just have to play better.”
