Nick Saban reveals why LB VanDarius Cowan hasn't been practicing this spring
As the Alabama Crimson Tide try to replace LBs Shaun Dion Hamilton and Rashaan Evans heading into the 2018 season, they’re a little short-handed this spring.
That’s because 4-star 2017 commit VanDarius Cowan hasn’t been on the field, and on Tuesday, coach Nick Saban revealed the reason why.
According to Saban, Cowan has been dealing with some academic issues, and won’t practice until those are cleared up:
Saban: VanDarius Cowan hasn't been at practice. We have rules here. Academic rules. When guys do not do this to the standard we've created, they can't practice until they get it right.

Spring practices are important, but it’s most important that Cowan has his academics cleaned up by the summer. That’s when the real preparations for the season begin.
Still, he’s only hurting himself by missing out on these reps this spring. He’ll have a lot of catching up to do when he does end up returning to the field.
