As spring practices started on Tuesday in Tuscaloosa, Alabama was without some of its key players.

Following the first spring session, coach Nick Saban addressed the media and updated the injury status of some big-name Crimson Tide contributors.

According to Saban, cornerback Jared Mayden, linebacker Shaun Dion Hamilton and running backs Bo Scarbrough and B.J. Emmons are going to be limited for the remainder of the spring:

“Jared Mayden had a hip injury from last season that required surgery,” Saban said during his introductory press conference for the spring, “so he’s going to be limited throughout the spring and probably be able to participate very little — but should have a full recovery. Shaun Dion Hamilton, as you all know, had an ACL (injury) in the SEC Championship Game, so he’s doing some things but will probably be limited in the spring — also anticipate a full recovery. BJ Emmons and Bo Scarbrough are both guys that are doing individual drills and are able to do somethings and probably will make progress throughout the spring, probably able to go in a short period of time.”

Obviously, not having those players around this spring will hurt the Crimson Tide, as there are several big-name stars heading to the NFL who need to be replaced, but having them ready for the fall is what’s most important.

Hamilton is the only one who might not be ready for the preseason practices, as he tore his ACL in the SEC Championship Game win over Florida.

The others, however, are expected to be back in action when the Crimson Tide ramp up their efforts to prepare for the 2017 season.
