Alabama (2-0) dispatched of Middle Tennessee State without much trouble on Saturday.

Coach Nick Saban offered these thoughts following the game.

Opening statement:

“We had to make some adjustments. I thought the players did a really good job of that. I though the players made some good plays on special teams, blocking a punt. We had a couple of positive returns. We still have a lot of things we can improve on.

“Offensively we moved the ball at times, but were inconsistent. We made some explosive plays, but there’s got to be more consistency and execution. These teams that you play are all good enough to expose you if you don’t have the right focus and intensity and do the job and finish. We obviously didn’t do a great job getting that point across. It was good to have the opportunity to play a lot of players. We really wanted to improve and play better than we did last week and I’m not sure we did that in all areas.”

On forcing turnovers:

“I think it was really, really good to get four and block a punt. That’s what we’ve been working on and what we’re trying to get. Both interceptions that we threw were bad decisions by the quarterback, balls that should not have been thrown. We obviously have to do a better job making decisions and taking care of the ball.”

On quarterback play:

“I think both guys really need to improve. I think that offensively we started to establish an identity against Wisconsin. We didn’t have one today, but that’s not all the quarterbacks’ fault.”

On Adam Griffith’s kicking struggles:

“You know, Griff hits the ball well. He kicks the ball off well. A lot of these kinds of things are mental, confidence, psychological disposition. I think he needs to make some kicks. I think that would be really good for us. One was a long one today. One was a short one. The short one was disappointing. He kicks extra points just great and that was not much more than an extra point. We think he can get the job done, but there may come a point when we give somebody else an opportunity.”

On Kenyan Drake and O.J. Howard:

“Both guys are guys we need to have make plays for us. It’s great to see them make some big plays. Kenyan, we need to use him in more ways than we are right now. We need to do the same thing with O.J. Howard. I just think we need to create an identity and consistency for the guys we have that can make plays.”
