After having a breakout end to his sophomore season, Alabama RB Bo Scarbrough suffered a broken foot while playing against Clemson in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game.

That’s led to the talented back missing out on Alabama’s spring practices thus far, though he has been working along the sidelines during the sessions.

Despite the absence from full-contact drills, coach Nick Saban said he’s not concerned about not having the junior runner at practice.

During his press conference after Tuesday’s session, Saban said the main concern with Scarbrough is having him ready to go when summer practices begin:

“Bo is doing more and more every day,” Saban said. “He did some non-contact stuff today but he’s sorta gaining confidence. Our goal for Bo is by the end of spring he’s fully confident that he can do everything that he needs to do. Whether he scrimmages or not is really not something that we are that concerned about.”

Saban added that Alabama’s other running backs are taking advantage of the extra reps, which is a positive side effect of Scarbrough’s injury:

“We have a lot of young guys like Josh Jacobs that could certainly use the experience,” he said. “I think it’s a good problem to have.”

Last year, Scarbrough ran for 812 yards and 11 touchdowns on 125 carries — an impressive 6.5 yards per carry. He’s expected to be a big part of Alabama’s offense this fall, as long as he’s healthy.
