The Alabama Crimson Tide have a bit of a quarterback battle going on during fall camp.

Veteran Mac Jones is expected to earn the Week 1 starting job, but 5-star freshman Bryce Young has been turning heads this summer, too.

On Tuesday evening at his press conference, coach Nick Saban spoke about both quarterbacks and how they’ve performed through 2 scrimmages. About Jones, he said the improvement was easy to see between the first and second scrimmages.

“I think Mac (Jones) has had a really good week this week,” he said. “He had a really good day on Saturday. Maybe not quite what we’d want in the first scrimmage, but a lot of guys didn’t play as well as what we’d like in the first scrimmage. We made a huge improvement to the next Saturday.”

As for Young, Saban said a little more consistency is something he’d like to see moving forward.

“Bryce (Young) is showing he’s a very talented guy,” Saban said. “He has to get more knowledge and experience to be able to be a little more consistent in terms of his execution.”

Again, Jones is the favorite to start Week 1, but it’ll be interesting to see how much playing time Young is able to get this fall.
