After successfully blocking for Tua Tagovailoa and the Alabama running backs, former Crimson Tide OT Jedrick Wills could be looking at a position change in the NFL. With Tagovailoa being a southpaw, Wills was protecting the quarterback’s blindside as a right tackle. In his recent conversation with Nick Saban, Eli Gold brought up that there is speculation that Wills could be moved to left tackle to protect a right-handed quarterback’s blindside. Saban shared his thoughts on whether he thinks Wills could switch sides on the offensive line.

“I think he’s got all the physical tools and physical abilities to do that,” Saban told Gold. “I think it’s a comfort level for every player. Some people feel more comfortable in a right-handed stance, especially if that’s how they played for many, many years, which Jedrick played right tackle in high school, too. It was always best for us to play him at right because Tua was left-handed, so that was like our left tackle.

“I do think he has all the physical attributes, the athleticism to be the kind of pass blocker you need to be on that side of the line. But I don’t know how he’ll transition. Nobody knows how anybody will. But I just know he’s capable, he’s smart enough and I think it will just be him getting enough repetitions that he develops a comfort zone.”

The first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, where Wills is projected to be selected, begins Thursday.
