Braxton Weidman’s day was made Friday by a heartwarming phone call from Nick Saban.

Saban, who was preparing his team to travel to Ole Miss on Saturday — a game that Alabama won 63-48, called Weidman to tell him he was dedicating the game to him.

Weidman, from Shelby County, is battling brain cancer, and his favorite players are Najee Harris and Jaylen Waddle. Little did Saban or Weidman know that Harris would rush for over 200 yards and 5 touchdowns against the Rebels defense in wet conditions.

“We’re going to go out and play really hard,” Saban told Weidman. “We might have to play in the rain in this game, and we’re going to do it just for you. … I was just thinking about you, and let you know our thoughts and prayers are with you.”

Saban went on to discuss with Weidman how to overcome adversity, keeping his attitude positive and controlling the things he can control.
