When you go on a show like ESPN’s “First Take,” you know you’re going to be bombarded with some questionable opinions from hosts Max Kellerman and Stephen A. Smith.

On Tuesday, Paul Finebaum made an appearance and had to justify Alabama’s No. 1 ranking in the AP Poll.

Many are wondering if Clemson is the best team in the nation, but Finebaum said that line of thought is premature, as Alabama’s win over Florida State is better than anything Clemson has done (via 247Sports):

“On paper, Clemson has a better body of work but I don’t think they’ve beaten a great team and I think Alabama has done that and therefore I’d rank them No. 1,” Finebaum said. “But I don’t think there’s a lot of difference between Alabama and Clemson.”

When Kellerman pointed out that Clemson beat Louisville on the road, Finebaum quickly shut him down, taking a shot at LSU in the process:

“This same Louisville team lost to Kentucky last year and they got run over by LSU, which I think has stopped playing college football,” Finebaum said. “I’m not wasting much energy on that.”

If things keep going the way they’ve gone to start the 2017 season, it may not matter where Clemson and Alabama are ranked, as they may be on a collision course for a third-straight national championship matchup.
