Former Alabama golfer Justin Thomas is preparing to play The Masters golf tournament this week, but he’s a huge Alabama football fan, and was featured as a guest picker on ESPN’s “College GameDay” last season.

Thomas is in the top five of betting odds to win the tournament, which was rescheduled from April amid the global pandemic. It wouldn’t be a surprise to most golf observers if he was in contention by the weekend. So on Tuesday, Thomas was asked if when he tees off is a factor with weighing the kickoff of the Alabama-LSU game, scheduled for 6 p.m. ET on Saturday.

Though there is some doubt about if the game will be played because of positive COVID-19 cases in the LSU program. None of that really matters to Thomas, though.

“We’re going to beat them by about 70 if we play them so I don’t think it really makes a difference,” Thomas said.

Thomas and coach Nick Saban are long-time friends since Saban talked with Thomas before the golfer committed to play at Alabama. Thomas has since called the coach after big wins like national championship games, and the coach often calls Thomas for tips on the golf course.
