Vanilla Vick. Cam Cracker. Baby Roethlisberger.

And there are others.

“It’s getting out of hand,” Alabama quarterback Jake Coker said earlier this week in reference to nicknames given to him by teammates.

Coker’s not known for his running ability, but made several plays with his feet during Saturday’s win against Texas A&M.

There was one play in particular late in the third quarter near the sideline during which Coker delivered a shot to an Aggies defensive back. Instead of sliding or getting to the sideline, Coker lowered his shoulder and handed the brunt of the hit to the opposition.

He gained much respect from teammates and was noticeably fired up trotting back to the huddle in a goal-to-go situation.

“I don’t like sliding,” Coker said. “I think it’s kind of crazy, especially you get close and somebody gets close and you start sliding and they want to get one in on you. I don’t believe in sliding.”

Escapability is a new element in his game, one the Crimson Tide will use to their advantage against fast and athletic defenses over the next few weeks beginning with Saturday’s matchup against Tennessee.
