The Jacksonville Jaguars liked Alabama OT Cam Robinson enough to trade up a spot for the chance to take him in the second round of the NFL Draft on Friday night, and it appears that he’ll have a chance to play LT for the Jags.

Some predicted that Robinson, a 6-foot-6, 322-pound Outland Trophy winner at left tackle would project better as a guard at the next level. Despite making a trade for veteran LT Brandon Albert earlier this offseason, however, the Jaguars appear committed to keeping Cam at tackle.

An added wrinkle to this saga is that Albert has yet to report to the team, as he has been holding out for a better contract.

When asked about Robinson’s role after the draft, Jaguars General Manager Dave Caldwell said that the team needed to have their “bases covered” wth regards to the Albert situation and that they plan on playing Robinson at OT. Though the assumption leading into the draft was that Albert was on track to be the starter, Caldwell said that the addition of Robinson may make the position a bit more fluid.

“They’ll compete,” Caldwell said, via 1010XL, a radio station in Jacksonville. “They’ll compete for the spot. … I think we’ll leave [Robinson] at tackle for the time being. Never say never, but he’s got the skillset to move inside if that’s what you’re asking.”
