When you win a bunch of national championships and dominate a major revenue sport like college football, people notice.

Nick Saban has received plenty of awards and praise over the years for doing just that. Most of those honors came within the confines of the sport.

The honor he picked up on Thursday, however, was on a global level.

Fortune Magazine ranked the Alabama coach No. 12 on its list of “world’s greatest leaders.” Saban was the only sports-related person besides tennis superstar Serena Williams to make the list (she came in at No. 15).

Saban commented on the prestigious honor at his press conference on Thursday. Here was his entire answer:

“Well, I think it’s quite an honor that somebody would recognize you in any way, shape or form. There’s a lot of great leaders in the world. There’s a lot of great people who have a significant impact on the future of a lot of other people. I feel very fortunate that we’ve had a great organization here, and a lot of great people in the organization that all have provided a lot of leadership. The No. 1 goal for us is to provide the leadership that’s going to help our players be successful in life, whether it’s their personal development or development and career off the field by graduating from school; whether it’s trying to develop a career as a football player. And I think that all starts with setting a good example and being somebody that somebody wants to emulate. But also caring enough about somebody else to do things to help them for their benefit. That’s something that we’ve certainly tried to do, not only on our football team, but in our community. It’s a great honor, but I think a lot of people contributed to that — people in this organization, Mrs. Terry, a lot of partnerships that we have — all contribute to us being able to provide that kind of leadership. We’re going to continue to be very dedicated to trying to continue to that in the future as well.”

Spoken like a true leader.
