Just how special is Alabama pass rusher Will Anderson Jr.? Depending on who you ask, one might say he was the biggest Heisman snub in recent memory.

One person who is certain that Anderson was worthy of consideration for College Football’s most coveted award is SEC Network’s Jordan Rodgers. During a segment on the network’s pregame show, the former Vanderbilt quarterback said that Saturday’s matchup against Texas could be his “Heisman moment.”

“He’s the most talented pass-rusher that I’ve ever evaluated,” Rodgers said. “I haven’t been around as long, but he is so talented.”

Anderson finished the 2021 season with a team-high 101 total tackles, 31 tackles for loss, 17.5 sacks, and 3 pass deflections. He was the driving force for Alabama’s front 7 en route to another College Football Playoff appearance.

While Alabama quarterback Bryce Young ended up hoisting up the Heisman Trophy, many believed that Anderson was unfairly left off the ballot. Michigan defensive end Aidan Hutchinson ended up earning the nod, making him the first defensive player to finish as a finalist since former Wolverines safety Jabrill Peppers in 2016.

Hutchinson finished 2nd overall in Heisman voting while Anderson finished 5th. The 6-foot-4, 235-pound linebacker will look to become the first defensive player to win the award since Charles Woodson in 1997.
