Kayla Posey has an engagement story that will surely top all of her friends after the way her now-fiancé, Drew Clayton, popped the question. After all, not everyone is asked for their hand in marriage while standing in Nick Saban’s office.

A story on AL.com on Friday detailed the very unique proposal, which took place in May. Posey, who has worked in the Alabama football office for several years, had worked her way up to being a student assistant to Saban, with one of her duties being tours of the facility. Clayton worked with Posey’s colleagues to set up the surprise.

After collaborating with one of his fraternity brothers to custom design the ring, Clayton used his connections to get access to Saban’s office. He put the engagement ring in place of Saban’s 2012 national championship ring, and went into hiding in the coach’s private bathroom.

Posey’s co-workers sent her out to lunch that afternoon, and when she returned they told her that she’d had a tour added to her schedule for the day and that she had to shine Saban’s championship rings at once. When she found the 2012 ring box was closed, she opened it to see the custom ring sitting there.

“When I got into the office, one of the national championship boxes was closed,” she told AL.com. “I started cleaning it with my dress and I opened the box. I looked at it for a second, and I thought, ‘That’s my ring.'”

At that point, Clayton emerged from the bathroom, dropped to one knee, and popped the question. Posey, of course, said yes.

Even better: the Alabama football staff had hidden cameras set up in the office, and the whole proposal was caught on tape.

Even though Saban has been shown in profiles to have a soft spot, it’s hard to imagine him signing off on this if he had work to do knowing how meticulous he is about, well, everything football related. Luckily, the coach was out of town for the proposal, so Clayton was all clear to pull off this surprise. Saban certainly wouldn’t be disappointed in him, as his form taking a knee was spectacular and he got the “yes” he was looking for. Talk about a victory formation.

The SEC: where not only are the teams better, but the marriage proposals are too.
