The Alabama Crimson Tide will have some new faces on the practice field on Saturday as they prepare for the Sugar Bowl.

That’s because, since the winter semester ended on Friday, 2018 players and a 2017 grayshirt are eligible to begin practicing.

Therefore, coach Nick Saban said on Friday that the Tide would likely have 2018 JUCO CB Saivion Smith and 2017 grayshirt DE Jarez Parks on the field with them this weekend (via 247Sports):

“We have two guys that actually qualify as soon as breaks start to be able to practice with the team at this point,” Saban said Friday. “They were both here today, but break doesn’t officially start until tomorrow, so they can start practicing tomorrow. That’s Saivion Smith and Jarez Parks. They cannot participate in the game but they can practice with the team.”

According to the 247Sports composite, Smith is the No. 1 JUCO cornerback in the class of 2018 and the No. 2 overall JUCO player.

Parks, meanwhile, was a 4-star commit in the Crimson Tide’s 2017 class. He was the No. 7 weakside defensive end and the No. 17 overall player from the state of Florida.

It’s only going to help the Tide that these two players are getting some practice in this bowl season. The rest of the class will likely have to wait until spring practices.
