As he transitions to becoming the Big Man on Campus, Alabama QB Mac Jones has branched out to other teams in the Alabama athletics department. On Sunday, it was the women’s tennis team.

Jones was a guest for the tennis team’s “first serve,” but by the reaction from the tennis players and fans, he drew some “ohhs and ahhs” and overall impressed people in the tennis complex.

In the 35-16 win over Michigan in the Citrus Bowl, Jones threw three touchdown passes including to WR Jerry Jeudy for an 85-yard score on Alabama’s first snap, DeVonta Smith and Miller Forristall in the second half for the Crimson Tide (11-2), which trailed 16-14 at halftime.

Jones took over as Alabama’s starter when Tua Tagovailoa suffered a season-ending injury in November. He completed 16 of 25 passes for 327 yards in the bowl game.

Jones will compete with Bryce Young and Taulia Tagovailoa in the spring and fall camp for the starting QB job.

Alabama opens the 2020 season on Sept. 5 against Southern Cal in Arlington, Texas. It’s the ninth straight season in which the Crimson Tide open with a neutral-site game. Alabama is 8-0 in those games.
