Tua Tagovailoa broke AJ McCarron’s single-season TD record Saturday in the 50-17 win against The Citadel.

On the season, Tagovailoa has thrown 31 TD passes, breaking McCarron’s 30 set in the 2012 season. He’s well on his way to winning a Heisman Trophy, too.

Following the game, Nick Saban was asked about Tagovailoa’s record breaking season, and he was unaware of it. However, he did offer a comment on it.

“Look, AJ McCarron was a fantastic player for us here and a three-year starter,” Saban said. “He won a couple championships, I think. So, his accomplishments will always be appreciated, but it’s always nice to see our players who are performing well get recognized for what they do. Tua’s had a really good year, and we’re excited for him that he’s set a record or broke a record or whatever. I’m sure the first thing he’d tell is that it wasn’t for his teammates, he wouldn’t have the opportunity to do that. So, I think it’s something that we all share. The whole offense should share in terms of the quality job the offensive line does, the receivers and everybody involved.”

Tagovailoa threw for 340 yards and scored four total TD’s Saturday. On the season, he’s thrown for 2,865 yards, 31 TDs and just two INTs. He’s also added four rushing TDs.
