It was reported Friday that Arkansas defensive line coach Rory Segrest would not be returning in 2017, and on Saturday coach Bret Bielema confirmed the reports in a statement he released.

“After reviewing the 2016 season and starting the transition to a new defense, I have decided to go in a different direction with our defensive line coach position,” Bielema said. “I want to thank Rory for his hard work and contributions on defense and special teams over the last three years. I wish he and his family nothing but the best in the future.”

Segrest is the second departure from the Razorbacks’ defensive staff this offseason. Last month, former defensive coordinator Robb Smith left to take the same position at Minnesota. He was replaced by Paul Rhoads, who was promoted from defensive backs coach.

Bielema has openly discussed switching the Hogs to a 3-4 defense in 2017, which is something he will likely address again in replacing Segrest prior to spring practice.
