Make room in the trophy case, Kevin Kopps is bringing home some more hardware.

Arkansas’ star pitcher Kevin, who was recently picked by the San Diego Padres in the third round of the Major League Baseball Draft (No. 99 overall), received the Golden Spikes Award as the best player in college baseball this season. He beat out the Vanderbilt duo of Kumar Rocker and Jack Leiter, who were also finalists. Kopps is the second Arkansas player ever to win the award, joining 2015 recipient Andrew Benintendi.

This past season, Kopps had a microscopic ERA and WHIP in a team-high 89 2/3 innings. Hitters only managed a .162 average on Kopps this past season.

Kopps is coming off one of the greatest individual seasons ever by a Razorback. He was the first relief pitcher to win the Dick Howser Trophy as national player of the year after he recorded a 12-1 record with 11 saves and a nation-best 0.90 ERA.

As college baseball’s most dominant pitcher, Kopps finished the 2021 campaign with a 12-1 record and 11 saves. He posted the nation’s lowest ERA (0.90) and WHIP (0.76), striking out 131 in 89 2/3 innings of work. Opposing hitters had a .162 average against the right-hander, who set the program’s single-season record for ERA during his historic year.
