The Arkansas Razorbacks will look much different on the offensive side of the ball in 2018 as they transition from Bret Bielema to new coach Chad Morris.

Morris comes from SMU, where he spent three years building a versatile and dangerous offense for the Mustangs.

During his introductory press conference on Thursday, Morris was asked about his plans for the Arkansas quarterbacks and whether he’d utilize a dual-threat guy. Morris said his offense stresses balance, pointing out some of SMU’s accomplishments this year (via 247Sports):

“Part of what we do is recruit around the style that we have,” Morris said. “We were one of two teams in college football this past year that had a 3,000-yard passer, two 1,000-yard receivers and a 1,000-yard rusher, and our quarterback was mobile enough.”

When asked about zone-read plays, Morris said having a mobile quarterback is nice, but there are different ways to run the play:

“As far as when you look at it with our zone-read game, there’s different answers to that,” Morris said. “Sometimes you may not have those mobile quarterbacks, so your zone read may not be as much as a pull down and run, it may be a pull down and throw, more of a triple-option effect.”

Morris will have rising redshirt sophomore QB Cole Kelley returning to the team next year, and Kelley’s experience replacing an injured Austin Allen this season should give him the inside track on the starting job.

How Morris plans to use him remains to be seen, but he has some options.
