It’s looking like Frank Ragnow’s NFL career will begin at guard.

The first-round selection in the 2018 NFL Draft from Arkansas is no stranger to the position to be sure, he started 15 games for the Razorbacks at the position — although at right guard, and that has given the Detroit Lions confidence to line him up at left guard to start his NFL playing career.

After learning about his new role, Ragnow was asked about it. Does he prefer playing at guard or at center, where he has also shined at the collegiate level?

“Don’t really have a preference,” Ragnow said, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. “Just want to be out there helping the team. I’ve played a lot of positions in high school, played a lot of positions in college. I just like playing football and wherever they put me I’m going to be happy to be there.”

His new head coach, Matt Patricia, has already noticed the early signs of progress from Ragnow. While noting several rookies comes in and look lost, Patricia noted that wasn’t the case with the former Razorback offensive lineman.

“I think with all young players that come in and have been here for a really short amount of time right now, let’s say it’s kind of a whirlwind for them. It’s spinning a little bit as far as all the information,” Patricia stated. “But I think he’s done a great job. I mean, he comes and he works extremely hard.”

While his senior season may not have gone near as well as planned, it appears Ragnow continued to progress during his final year in Fayetteville and will take that knowledge and experience and be able to apply that immediately to the game’s highest level in 2018.
