If conference membership were up to Garth Brooks, he would have Arkansas join the Big 12.

The legendary country singer was a guest on Sirius XM’s College Sports Nation when the topic of conference expansion came up. Brooks, a former track athlete at Oklahoma State, was asked who he had hoped the Big 12 was going to add during its previous round of expansion in 2012.

“I was always pulling for Arkansas,” Brooks told “Full Ride” host Chris Childers. “I’d love to have seen them come in because they’re right next door. Some of the greatest football games of old when I was a kid was the University of Oklahoma and Arkansas, so I wanted to see them come in.”

The Sooners and Razorbacks have not played each other since 1980. If the two were to cross paths in a non-conference contest or a bowl game, we can assume Brooks would secure the best seats in the house.

Unfortunately for Brooks, it looks like the Razorbacks will continue to hear “Callin’ Baton Rouge” every other year in Death Valley. It appears that Memphis and Houston are the most likely teams to gain new friends in low places.
