Look for Hunter Henry to remain a Charger heading into the 2020 season.

The NFL allows teams to assign an exclusive franchise tag to players leading up to the pending free agency period and the deadline to place the tag is set to expire on March 16. In anticipation of that date, the Chargers decided now was the time to lock down the young tight end.

It should be noted that Henry will still have the option of signing with another franchise despite being tagged, but it will cost the team that signed the tight end multiple draft selections, including a first-round choice.

Henry is coming off his best professional season after catching 55 passes for 652 yards and five touchdowns. The former Arkansas All-American was a second-round selection by the Chargers in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Following his first season in the NFL, Henry was named All-Rookie selection by the Professional Football Writers of America after catching eight touchdown passes.

Unfortunately for Henry, his NFL career has been plagued by injuries. He missed the entire 2018 and played in 35 games his first four seasons in the league — which included missing the entire 2018 season.
