It wasn’t the prettiest of wins, but it’s a huge one, and the Razorbacks are heading home 2-0.

Although TCU came back from a 20-7 fourth-quarter deficit to force overtime, Arkansas escaped with a massive nonconference victory when Austin Allen sealed the 41-38 win with a 5-yard touchdown in double overtime.

What it means: Arkansas is capable of heading on the road and winning big games in hostile environments. The win marked the Razorbacks’ third consecutive road victory against teams ranked in the top 20 of the AP Poll. Arkansas may find itself ranked next week, while TCU had its 14-game winning streak at home snapped.

What I liked: The Razorbacks’ offensive effort. Arkansas used a balanced attack and showed it could score in bunches against one of the best defenses in the Big 12. Allen led the way and proved he has the poise and leadership capabilities to help the offense score against any team, no matter how big the spotlight is.

What I didn’t like: The special teams. They were abysmal. Although the unit’s poor performance was highlighted by Cole Hedlund’s missed 22-yard field goal, TCU also had big returns throughout the entire game. In all, the Horned Frogs averaged 31 yards per kickoff return on their five returns. KaVontae Turpin was a pain in the kickoff team’s side all night as he finished with 136 yards on four returns. Even though Dan Skipper blocked a potential game-winning field goal in the waning seconds of regulation, it was a rough night for the special teams.

Who’s the man: After sitting behind his older brother and former Arkansas quarterback, Brandon, Austin Allen stepped up and proved he can shine under pressure. In just his second career start, Allen led a 4-play, 58-yard touchdown drive in which he caught a game-tying pass on a 2-point conversion. With a win like this on his résumé, Allen proved he’s ready to lead the Razorbacks in SEC play after completing 17-of-29 pass attempts for 223 yards and 3 touchdown passes as well as a game-winning touchdown run in double overtime.

Key plays: Hedlund missed a 22-yard field goal, which ignited a massive TCU comeback. Though after Allen caught the game-tying pass on that 2-point conversion, Skipper ensured the game would go into overtime after blocking a would-be, game-winning kick in the final seconds of regulation. In the second overtime, Allen clinched a walk-off victory with a hard-nosed, 5-yard touchdown run.

What’s next: The Razorbacks will return home and host Texas State next Saturday. The Bobcats will head to Fayetteville fresh after having a bye in Week 2. They needed three overtimes to outlast Ohio 56-54 in their opener after posting a 3-9 mark last year.
