Trelon Smith has had a change of plans. After previously committing to TCU, the Houston native has picked out another Texas school. On Wednesday, he announced his commitment to UTSA.

Smith announced he would be entering the NCAA transfer portal on Jan. 1. On Jan. 30, he committed to TCU. On Tuesday, HornedFronBlitz published a paywalled 247Sports VIP story with the headline, “Former Arkansas RB Trelon Smith no longer headed to TCU.”

Smith’s transfer to UTSA will be the second of his career. He left Arizona State for Arkansas after 2 seasons (2017-18). Smith sat out the 2019 season at Arkansas due to NCAA transfer rules. In the past 2 seasons, Smith played in 23 games, logging 253 carries for 1,308 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Smith was considered a redshirt senior in 2021. The NCAA’s COVID-19 waiver for the 2020 season grants him a sixth season of eligibility.
