On Monday, Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema spoke to the media ahead of the Razorbacks’ bowl game versus the Virginia Tech Hokies on Thursday.

Bielema delved into a number of topics — including the depth at the running back position, the general disposition of the team at this point, and the injury status of some of his players.

Perhaps the most significant item on the agenda included Virginia Tech signal-caller Jerod Evans. Evans is one of the nation’s best dual-threat quarterbacks. On the year, the Dallas native threw 27 touchdowns to only 7 interceptions. He also ran for 759 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Arkansas is undoubtedly focusing much of its attention on slowing down the talented player. Evans has an ability to take off and run when the play breaks down. This is an aspect of the game that’s virtually impossible to fully account for.

“He’s the guy,” said Bielema. “When he’s on, they’re playing very well. He throws the ball effectively, and he’s also a very effective runner.”

Lastly, Bielema spoke about his linemen getting a chance to cram into NASCAR race cars, and ride up to 160 miles-per-hour around the Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Bielema opted to watch from the sidelines, as opposed to taking in the thrilling ride.

“I figure in my life I chanced out too many times with too many other things,” Bielema said.
