First-year Arkansas coach Chad Morris is known for his offensive play-calling, and that is a major reason why he was hired to take over for Bret Bielema in Fayetteville. While Arkansas fans can’t wait to see how he revamps the Razorbacks offense, you could argue his staff has just as much work to do on the defensive side of the ball, if not more.

Morris brought in veteran defensive coordinator John Chavis to fix a unit that ranked dead last in the SEC in team defense in 2017, and allowed 242 passing yards per game, so it is safe to assume defensive back will be a position of interest for Arkansas in Morris’ first season.

The Razorbacks shared a video on Saturday of Morris speaking to the media about freshman safety Joseph Foucha, who is expected to contribute immediately to Chavis’ defensive backfield.

“This is a young man, a freshman that looks the part,” said Morris. “The moment is not too big for him right now.”

“If he continues to come on it will allow us to make some moves into that nickel position, so been really pleased with him.”

Foucha was a 3-star prospect and the #42 safety in the class of 2018, per the 247 Sports Composite. The New Orleans native was offered by several schools around the SEC, including Alabama, LSU, and Auburn.

Defensive coordinator John Chavis built a reputation for putting defensive players in the NFL from his time at Tennessee and LSU, but this may be the worst defense he has ever taken over. Joseph Foucha could be a significant factor in improving that side of the ball for Arkansas in 2018.
