Hoover High School in Alabama is known for consistently pumping football players into SEC schools, and other premier college football programs around the country. Hoover wide receiver and Auburn commit George Pickens will be one of those players, and earned some high praise from a rival head coach on Thursday.

Thompson High School head coach Mark Freeman compared Pickens to former Alabama and current Atlanta Falcons star Julio Jones before the matchup between Hoover and Thompson on Thursday night.

“You can’t just let him catch the ball on you, because he’s so hard to tackle” Freeman told AL.com. “You cover him as good as you can and get some help to him when you can.”

“He’s just that player, heck, he’s as good as I’ve seen since Julio (Jones) as far as catching the ball and being strong.”

Pickens is a 4-star recruit, per the 247 Sports Composite, and is the No. 7 wide receiver in the country. Pickens is currently committed to Auburn, but holds offers from the likes of Alabama, Michigan, Florida, Florida State, and more. Julio Jones is also an Alabama native, and was the No.1 wide receiver in the country when he was being recruited out of Foley High School, who Freeman and his Thompson Warriors beat 47-0 this season.

Freeman has his share of stars on his team, however, with 4-star quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa currently committed to Alabama.
