One of the more interesting elements to the Auburn Tigers this season is how the offense will look under new offensive coordinator Chad Morris.

The former Arkansas was hired by Gus Malzahn to replace Kenny Dillingham who left Auburn for Memphis. Morris lasted less than two seasons at Arkansas before being dismissed by the program following a 45-19 loss to Western Kentucky. Morris had a record of 4-18 at Arkansas.

Early in training camp, players have taken to the new wrinkles on offense, and believe in the upgrades Morris will bring.

“We’ll be throwing the ball a little more” under Chad Morris, Eli Stove said, per Josh Vitale.

Added LB Owen Pappoe, “Salute to Chad Morris. We talk about almost every day in the linebacker room. … I can’t say too much about it, but y’all going to see. It’s going to be a whole new Auburn offense.”

Stove added that the new coordinator would bring in a lot of different plays, particularly intermediate routes this season, an area where Auburn struggled in 2019.

Outside of Arkansas, Morris is most known as his time as head coach at SMU, and offensive coordinator at Clemson. A well-known high school coach in Texas for 16 years from 1994-2009, Morris broke into the college game as associate head coach and offensive coordinator at Tulsa in 2010.
