The pressure keeps mounting on Auburn coach Gus Malzahn, who didn’t do himself any favors by losing 27-10 to Georgia on Saturday.

AD Allen Greene and Malzahn himself continue to face questions about the coach’s future, and even Auburn president Steven Leath can’t escape the questions.

On Tuesday, Auburn Undercover asked Leath if Malzahn would be the coach in 2019, and Leath threw his support behind the team he has hired:

“Well, I hired what I think is a first-class athletic director in Allen Greene,” Leath told Auburn Undercover on Tuesday. “He’s doing a first-class job, so I stand with Allen — and Allen I think was pretty clear with his comments about Gus being here next year. So, I don’t really have anything to add to that specifically.”

Asked whether Leath wants Malzahn to be the coach in 2019, the president responded swiftly: “Yep.”

There figures to be at least one more loss on Auburn’s schedule, as the Tigers close the regular season with a trip to Tuscaloosa to take on No. 1 Alabama.

Can Malzahn and his giant contract survive a 7-5 regular season? We could find out in a couple of weeks.
