Transfer QB Jarrett Stidham hasn’t been at Auburn very long, but he’s already making a positive impression with Tigers wide receivers.

“He can sling it,” Jason Smith, told AL.com’s Tom Green. “He can sling it. That’s another help that just adds on to the team and another spark we’ll have on next year. I look forward to playing with him.”

Stidham played at Baylor in 2015 (75-of-109 passing for 1,265 yards, 12 touchdowns and 2 interceptions in 10 games, including three starts), but left after Bears coach Art Briles was fired. He enrolled at McLennan Community College, but did not play junior college football.

Since he was a community college enrollee, however, 247Sports ranked the four-star dual-threat quarterback him as the No. 1 JUCO recruit. Coming out of Stephenville (Texas) in 2015, Stidham was the No. 2 dual-threat quarterback prospect.

He committed to Auburn on Dec. 14 and was able to take part in Sugar Bowl practices on campus.

“When he came to practice, he was a pretty good quarterback,” Kyle Davis said. “We got three good quarterbacks — well, two now; two other good quarterbacks, so we’ll see if he wins the job when he gets here.”

One new teammate considers the quarterback a quick learner.

“We hung out with him during the little break we had and he got used to everything quick,” Eli Stove said.

Davis, Stove and Stidham will all be considered sophomores in 2017 (Stidham a redshirt sophomore), which gives Tigers fans something to be excited about not only next season, but 2018 as well.
