Auburn and UAB haven’t played a game against one another since 1996 despite being just over 100 miles away from each other.

However, that could change in the near future, as both sides are working to come to an agreement on a non-conference matchup in the coming years, according to AL.com:

“We’ve had conversations with them,” Auburn athletic director Jay Jacobs told AL.com. “We’d love to play them again if we can work it out on the schedule, but finding a common date is often difficult to do some times.”

UAB AD Mark Ingram is also confident the game will eventually take place, though he couldn’t predict when the two sides would actually take the field:

“I think it will happen,” Ingram said. “I don’t know when.”

Though both sides sound eager to make the in-state non-conference matchup happen, it doesn’t look like it will be a possibility until at least 2020.

From there, the schools will have to decide if they want to do a home-and-home series or just a one-off game with Auburn hosting.
