The dismissal of former backup quarterback Sean White from Auburn has caused the Tigers to shake up who’s getting snaps at quarterback.

Coach Gus Malzahn on Tuesday announced that freshman Malik Willis is now the backup quarterback and junior Ryan Davis, who leads Auburn with 19 catches, is also seeing time at QB as depth is increasingly an issue for the Tigers. Davis has just one touchdown so far, but has at least eight catches in each of the last two games.

Willis drew plenty of praise and attention in the spring and summer workouts as he drew praise from former Auburn quarterback Nick Marshall. Willis performed so well, Malzahn said he wouldn’t redshirt even before White was dismissed, AL.com reported. Willis is an Atlanta native and former 3-star recruit. As a high school senior, Willis passed for 2,562 yards and rushed for 1,033 yards with 37 touchdowns

White was suspended to start the season and originally expected to be back for the third week of the season before a public intoxication charge led to him being dismissed from the team.

Auburn will travel to Missouri on Saturday for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
