Auburn’s lack of first-team All-SEC selections didn’t sit well with Bruce Pearl.

The Tigers coach admitted that he was “disappointed” and that it was sort of consistent with their year that despite winning the SEC regular season title, they didn’t earn a single first-team All-SEC selection.

It went without saying that Charles Barkley wasn’t a fan of that, either.

The Auburn legend joined the TruTV broadcast during the Auburn-College of Charleston first-round game of the NCAA Tournament. He aired some frustration on the issue, and called out SEC coaches.

“I think they deliberately tried to hurt Auburn,” Barkley said on the TruTV broadcast. “There’s no way you win the SEC regular season title and don’t have a player on first- or second-team. I thought that was a travesty and a disgrace and I think the coaches did it intentionally to get back at Bruce and that’s really unfortunate because we should’ve had some kids on the first- or second-team.”

For what it’s worth, Bryce Brown and Jared Harper did receive second-team All-SEC honors. But the fact that the Tigers whiffed on the major awards and leading scorer Mustapha Heron was left off both teams didn’t sit well with Auburn.

Barkley has obviously never been shy about sharing his opinion, but history supports his claim. Auburn became the first regular-season SEC champion to not have a coaches’ first-team all-conference selection in 62 years.

For now, though, Auburn’s focus is on getting past Charleston.
