SEC Network analyst Cole Cubelic shares his initial thoughts on Auburn graduate transfer lineman Brandon Council
Whenever football return to The Plains, Auburn will be dealing with a rebuilt offensive line as four of the unit’s starters from last season are no longer on the roster looking ahead to the 2020 season.
That’s why adding players like Akron graduate transfer Brandon Council is such big news for the Tigers. If you missed it, Council announced his commitment to join Gus Malzahn’s program on Thursday.
Council started all 12 games for Akron last season and displayed his versatility as he made seven starts at left guard, two at center, two at right tackle, and one at left tackle last fall according to his Akron bio.
The former Akron starter and North Carolina native will now be given an opportunity to potentially start for the Tigers this fall but that may be an uphill climb according to SEC Network analyst Cole Cubelic.
After learning of Council’s addition to the Auburn roster, Cubelic shared the following comments on the Akron graduate transfer after studying his film.
Based on Cubelic’s analysis, Council does not project to be a starter for the Tigers at this time.
Akron transfer OL Brandon Council; headed to Auburn
GOOD: Athletic. Good power. When hands land can be effective. Strong punch. Moves well in space
BAD: Lacks lower body flexibility. Doesn’t bend. Pad level poor. Feet get lazy
Body on roster helps. Not penciling in as starter pic.twitter.com/feDZDatqX1

The fit is at tackle for me. The pad level & lack of flexibility may be too much to overcome at guard. If he improves body balance & feet after contact I believe he can be an asset for Auburn at tackle. Has the length & athleticism.
